On September 3rd, 2016 Muf and Zai met in San Francisco, where both of them were visiting friends and attended the same Indian networking event. Muf’s parents decided to fund his trip since it’s common for men to meet women at these events, and since his brother, Moiz, was living there at the time, Muf could not disappoint. Zai and her friends had also arranged to go to San Fran and reluctantly decided to attend the event as well. Muf noticed Zai in her purple outfit, thought she was cute and decided to make the first move. At one of the dinner parties, he sat with Zai and chatted up his design skills since he discovered she’s a professional graphic designer. Zai thought he was exceptionally charming and accepted the “chatting up” by taking him away from everyone to the dessert table to dip some strawberries in the chocolate fountain. The following day, they met up to watch the sunset by the Golden Gate Bridge and bonded over horror films. The rest is history, with a lot of flights, phone calls, french toasts, grilled octopi and reclining movie theatres between New York and Toronto, where Muf and Zai live respectively.
Booked into their calendars months in advance, Zai and her besties Kim and Marie, had organized a two-year frienniversary dinner on Friday April the 6th. They were going to check out Pick 6ix, Drake’s newly opened restaurant in the city. Little did Zai know, her girls were stealthily planning a surprise with Muf for weeks. Muf had been shopping for a ring a couple months prior to April, and had spent a lot of time doing research on finding and designing the perfect ring for Zai. That night, the girls had dressed up and decided to grab some appetizers at the Thompson Hotel Rooftop to kill some time before dinner.
